Letter to the Editor: Anticipation… student’s feelings on first day of school

There is a feeling in the air—a certain feeling of awakening; a new beginning is about to unfold. A new world of endless possibilities may be revealed just around the corner.

This is the beginning of another year of school.  The late August sense of finality, that summer is gone and fall quickly approaches.  New classes, full of students from diverse backgrounds, gather together to learn new things, to discover knowledge of the world around them, and in them.

With each new class there are new faces, each with an interesting story to tell and a new perspective to give.  Learning is a two-way street, after all, not just from professor to student, but also from student to professor.

Who can tell what new contacts will be made?  What mind will be enlightened?  What inspiration will spring forth as a result of the experience?  The possibilities for greatness are immense.

These are my feelings during this time of year.  Perhaps more in-depth than while in grade school, but still simplistic in terms of the feelings I have always experienced during the first day of school.  So simple, it can be summed up in one word…

Anticipation.
