The Grand Rapids Community College softball team hosted the second annual JUCO Softball Showcase at Northview High School on Oct. 6.
Head Coach Paula Maloley started the showcase last year to show off her two year players to four year colleges. Last year, there were eight teams, and this year, there were 12. Some of the conference teams included Macomb Community College, Muskegon Community College, Lake Michigan Community College and Jackson Community College.
“We had to turn a couple teams away,” Maloley said.
There were many Division one colleges at the showcase, including Central Michigan University, Ferris State University, Aquinas College, Davenport University and University of Chicago.
The Raiders kicked off the showcase at 9 a.m. against Lansing Community College. They also played at 1:15 p.m. against Delta Community College and at 3:30 p.m. against Owens Community College.
The Raiders lost the first game 9-1 and the second game 3-1. They won the third against Owens CC 6-4.
“We weren’t quite ready to rock and roll, but we got better by the end of the day,” Maloley said.
