A community march is planned for Martin Luther King Jr. day on Monday at Grand Rapids Community College. The 28th annual event will kick off at noon at the Gerald R. Ford Fieldhouse.

Following the march will be a memorial program beginning at 12:30 p.m.

At 6:30 p.m. there will be an evening keynote by Chuck D. called ‘The Reality of the Dream’ and featuring a special music preformance by the Fisk Jubilee Singers. The keynote is scheduled to last until 8:30 p.m.

“In order for us to get further from where we are now, we have to come together,” said Arielle Brown, the President of Black Student Union. “That is all that he (Martin Luther King Jr.) talked about, that was his philosophy.”

The march will begin at the Ford Fieldhouse and head west on Lyon Street to Monroe Avenue, then down Monroe Center. Making it’s way to Division Avenue, it will loop to Fountain Street and back to campus.

The Collegiate will have a crew covering the march, check back for updates.
