Bert Bleke chosen as commencement speaker at GRCC

Grand Rapids Community College Board of Trustees chairperson, Bert Bleke, will be serving as the commencement speaker for graduation this year.

“It is an honor,” Bleke said. “Just the fact that I can take a few minutes to share some ideas is great, and the fact that it is the 100th anniversary adds to that. My only hope is that I can live up to that, that’s all.”

The ceremony will take place at 7 p.m. on May 1 at the Van Andel Arena, 130 Fulton St. Grand Rapids. No tickets are needed for graduation this year.

The day before commencement, the Black Student Union will be presenting the first annual Graduation Gala at 6 p.m. April 30 in the Student Community Center. Provost Laurie Chesley will be addressing graduates. A full course dinner will be included in the event, and music and dancing will be taking place on the terrace of the third floor. Formal attire is recommended.

The cost is $5 per person. Tickets can be purchased in the Student Life office. Contact for the event is Andre Fields.
