Student Services to host first Fall Job Fair today

By Gary Manier – Collegiate Staff

Student Employment Services will host its first fall job fair today. The job fair will take place from 1-4 p.m. in the Applied Technology Center in rooms 120, 122 and 124. SES has been host to a large job fair in the spring for many years, but this year they are hosting a second, smaller fair in the fall. The fall job fair is expected to be about half the size of the spring fair in terms of the amount of employers that will be representing their respective businesses.

This fair is open to students, alumni and community members. Anyone seeking employment has the invitation to attend.

“There will be businesses from all different fields looking to fill seasonal, part-time, and full-time positions,” said Haley Spencer, Student Employment Services Assistant. “These employers have job openings for all different skill levels.”

Those planning to attend the job fair should review the Student Employment Services website for tips and tools. The job offerings can be viewed and downloaded here.

“We are hoping for a good turnout at this job fair because there are many positions available to qualified applicants,” Spencer said.

SES suggests that prospective employees dress professionally and be enthusiastic when attending the job fair. Attendees should come prepared with polished resumes and cover letters for each position that one may be interested in. It is also suggested that attendees prepare a short introduction for oneself before meeting with the recruiters at different booths.

“A job fair is a great opportunity to network with potential employers, express enthusiasm and (your) qualifications, and be memorable to the people in the hiring position,” Spencer said. “All of these things help a candidate stand out from a number of other applicants for job openings.”
