This year’s “Movies in the Park” lineup has been announced.
“Movies in the Park continues to emerge as the city’s premier outdoor film event,” said Andy Guy, Chief Outcomes Officer for Downtown Grand Rapids Inc. “Total attendance last year was nearly 32,000 people over the six event nights. If the weather is good, the event will consistently pack 5,000 to 6,000 in to Ah-Nab-Awen Park.”
Blanket seating will be up front and chairs will be permitted farther back. Outside food is also allowed, alternatively there will also be vendors selling pizza, sandwiches, BBQ, hot dogs and popcorn at the park.
“Many people and families make a picnic of movie night,” Guy said. “Folks are welcome to bring their own beer and wine. If you bring your drinks, bring a picture ID, too.”
The movies are screened at Ah-Nab-Awen Park, 220 Front Ave NW by the Gerald. R. Ford Museum. The event is hosted by Downtown Grand Rapids Inc. and sponsored by the Michigan Lottery.
The lineup is as follows:
June 3 – “Wizard of Oz”
June 17 – “Men In Black”
July 8 – “A League of Their Own”
July 22 – “The Mask Of Zorro”
Aug. 5 – “Edward Scissorhands”
Aug. 19 – “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” and a viewers choice movie that is yet to be determined.
Voting for the viewers choice movie will begin on June 3.
All movies start at sundown with pre-movie entertainment beginning at 7 p.m. All movies are free to the public.
