The Grand Rapids Community College Board of Trustees has chosen Gold-Hill Associates as the official search firm for the GRCC presidential search.
Trustees David Koetje and Deb Bailey were the trustees represented on the committee in charge of choosing the search firm.
“We chose them because they have significant experience and work only on hiring community college presidents,” Bailey said. The firm was chosen from four finalists.
GRCC President Steven Ender announced earlier this year his plans to retire June 30, 2017. The board plans to have a new president selected by November.
Bailey said the minority-owned firm has extensive networks, the primary reason for hiring a firm outside of the college.
“Our goal is not to just rely on people that are looking for jobs, but to find stars out there that are probably very happy in their jobs,” Bailey said.
The range in fees of the finalist pool was between $40,000-$100,000. Gold-Hill Associates charges $40,000 to conduct the search. Bailey predicts the college will spend another $14,000 to 16,000 more on candidate travel expenses and advertising and media costs.
Overall, Bailey is confident with the decision going forward.
“They fit with the culture of the college,” Bailey said. “They presented themselves in a way that we have a great deal of trust in them representing Grand Rapids Community College to possible candidates.”
