The Grand Rapids Community College women’s basketball team fought their way through a tough 54-49 overtime victory, Wednesday, against Alma college to improve to 2-0 on the season.
The Raiders experienced a tough shooting night, as open shots just wouldn’t go down.
“Tough shooting night for us,” said Head Coach Dave Glazier. “The players took open shots, but it was just one of those nights where the open shot just wasn’t falling,”
On the other end of court, GRCC’s defensive intensity was at an all time high.
“Defensively, our effort was there. We played with controlled aggression on that end of the floor and that is important in close games.” Glazier said.
In the overtime period, GRCC finished the game on a 10 to 5 run as they put the game away.
“Our defense was why we were able to pull this one out,” Glazier said. “We were aggressive, controlled and they stepped up.”
The Raiders got some good contribution from it’s young group in a tight win.
Freshman Forward Makayla Beld finished the game with 14 points on 4-6 shooting, eight rebounds, one block and one assist. Freshman Guard, Allazae Lloyd finished with 14 points on 6-15 shooting, nine rebounds, two blocks and three steals.
Along with those two, Freshman Guard, Keaira Lipscomb finished the night with 11 points and three steals.
The team’s next game will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18, vs. Schoolcraft College in the Kalamazoo Valley Community College tournament.
