GR women’s basketball team pulled out a close 56-52 victory over Mott Community College Wednesday Nov. 30.
GRCC played a tough brand of basketball that presented a series of ups and downs.
“We had good and bad moments tonight,” said Head Coach Dave Glazier. “Overall we just continued to play and nothing really bothered us.”
GRCC was a force on the defensive end causing Mott CC to commit 21 turnovers and their dominant play on that side of ball helped them win the rebound game.
“They bring effort and they bought in,” Glazier said. “In the beginning we told them if you want to get on the floor you have to play defense and they all as a team bought into that.”
The Raiders had trouble taking care of the ball themselves and the players see that as a huge flaw that needs to be improved on.
“I thought we played well because of what we did defensively,” said Freshman Guard Claire Flewelling. “But we need to limit our turnovers and know what time is on the shot clock.”
Flewelling finished the game with nine points off 3-9 shooting from the three point line, with four steals.
“I think we played okay in the beginning but we began to fall apart a little,” said Freshman Forward Makayla Beld. “In the second half we played better and pulled it out but we have to work on limiting our turnovers.”
Beld finished the game with nine points and 11 rebounds.
The next game will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3 against Cornerstone University at the GRCC Fieldhouse.
