The Grand Rapids Community College women’s basketball team notched a tough 43-39 victory against Mid Michigan Community College Friday.
Points were hard to come by as the Raiders struggled offensively, along with dealing with the injury bug. They were able to walk away with a victory which came down to team defense and effort.
“They believed in themselves tonight,” said Head Coach Dave Glazier. “We had questionable effort after Kalamazoo on Wednesday, but tonight was all their effort,” Glazier said.
The players took this win as a great step forward, proving to themselves that they can work together and win games.
“We had a tough time these last couple games, playing together as a team,” Freshman Forward Makyla Beld said. “But today you can see that shine through.”
“We were patient with each other, and that lead to some easy buckets,” said Freshman Guard Claire Flewelling. “We played good team defense, better than past games.”
Beld lead the way for the Raiders with 15 points, 13 rebounds, and two blocks.
Freshman Forward Emily Pendred also finished with a standout performance, scoring 11 points, grabbing 18 rebounds and picking up one block on the night.
The Raiders’ next game will be at 5:30 next Wednesday, Feb.1, at Jackson College.
