The Grand Rapids Community College men’s basketball team defeated Kellogg Community College Wednesday by 23 points, 89-67.
GRCC is now at 9-6 in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association Western Conference, with a 15-11 overall record.
There was no shortage of positive energy which has been the team’s motto for the season according to Head Coach Luke Bronkema.
“We came out with positive energy,” Bronkema said. “We were full of positive energy, our same old game plan.”
This helped the team play with “unselfishness and great ball movement,” Bronkema said.
“We came out and played unselfish on offense,” Bronkema said. “We penetrated and kicked the ball out and looked for the open man and took great shots.”
If GRCC hopes to continue to increase their chances of winning the rest of their games and making an appearance at the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II National Tournament, they need to keep themselves sharp and focused.
“We just need to keep working on our fundamentals and our discipline on the court,” Bronkema said. “We need to focus more on the game plan for each individual game and make sure we’re ready mentally for each game as they’ll be crucial. It’s going to be more of a mental game going forward.”
For GRCC’s next game, they’ll play at 7:30 p.m. Friday against Kalamazoo Valley Community College for the finale of GRCC’s spirit week. Admission will be free to all and concessions will be available to the spectators of the game. There will be special halftime events and a dance following the game.
