Student Alliance E-Board: Searching for new student alliance members

At Thursday’s Student Alliance executive board meeting, several students discussed finding potential candidates for new Student Alliance member along with the upcoming Kidney Walk.

So far, interviews for new Student Alliance members are underway. There have been four candidates who have been interviewed to potentially become members of Student Alliance. All positions are still available and include President, External Affairs Director, Communications Director, Operations Director.

Those who are interested in applying can visit there website and fill out the “Leadership application”, turn in a resume and one letter of recommendation (not to be completed by a family member). After finishing the necessary requirements applicants may send there information to Director of Student Life and Conduct, Lina Blair via email, carolineblair@grcc.edu or bring them to the GRCC the Student Life Office. They are hoping to fill all of the positions by the start of the summer.

During the meeting Blair, mentioned that the National Kidney Foundation will be hosting a Kidney Walk at Millennium Park this Sunday. The walk will help raise money for people who have kidney disease and help find ways to prolong their lives. According to the Kidney Walk webpage, over 26 million people suffer from chronic heart disease which can put them at risk for heart failure, kidney disease and other life threatening problems.

For this year’s Grand Rapids Kidney Walk, Grand Rapids Community College President Bill Pink is serving as honorary chair, and will be joining the walk. Registration will start at 1 p.m. and the walk will begin at 2 p.m. GRCC students, faculty and staff are encouraged to bring family members, friends and pets to walk and support this cause. There will also be a GRCC table near the check-in table where participants can receive a free GRCC bandana.

Student Life is also looking for volunteers to help out with the walk. Those who are interested can contact Blair via email, carolineblair@grcc.edu.

The last Student Alliance meeting with take place next Thursday in the Multipurpose room located on the second floor of the Student Life Center from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
