The Grand Rapids Community College Board of Trustees will meet today at 4:15 p.m. to vote on a plan for a new consolidated Lakeshore Campus location. The vote takes place just under four weeks after GRCC President Bill Pink unveiled the tentative plan to faculty and staff in his welcoming speech.
Pink wasn’t shy about discussing the proposal for the consolidated campus, taking many by surprise when he announced the plan during his speech on Saturday, Aug. 20. The big move for GRCC, which is contingent on the board’s decision later today, would be intended to make student life on the lakeshore easier with a more accessible campus.
The current GRCC Lakeshore Campus is made up of four locations around Holland, including West Ottawa High School, the Careerline Tech Center, the GVSU Meijer Campus and the Midtown Center. To consolidate these four locations into one, GRCC is hoping to partner with Ottawa County officials to begin the process of purchasing the former JCPenney store in the Shops at Westshore.
This afternoon’s board meeting is the first of the fall semester. This is a developing story. Check back with The Collegiate for updates.
