The Grand Rapids Community College Men’s golf team placed 6th of 8 teams at Taylor University Invite earlier this week teeing off against several larger schools.
The Raiders shot consistently on day one across the board. Tyler Hausserman, 76, Dominic Luciani 79, Cooper Bell 83, Mitch Denhartigh 80, and Dylan Bergman with an 85. With a 318 overall as a team on day one.
Hausserman says that he and his team would all agree that the performance could be better saying, “it was nice playing bigger schools and good competition, but I think we underperformed drastically as a team, and I know my teammates would agree with me,” Hausserman continues, “I think it’s going to make us better going forward.”
On day two the Raiders stayed consistent with day one, shooting a 323 as a team with Hausserman leading once again with a 78. Bell came in with an 80, Luciani with an 81, Bergman with an 84, and Denhartigh with an 85.
Cooper Bell agrees with Hausserman.“We didn’t play our best, but if you look at the positives, we finished 6 out of 8 with all the schools, and all the schools were four-year universities,” Bell said.“At the end of both days we looked back at how we played, and what we could’ve done differently, and we all could have taken a couple strokes off our rounds.”
Although it’s not exactly what the Raiders wanted, they will take any learning opportunity that they can get for the spring season. The Raiders’ final fall match is Oct. 20 at the Whistling Straits Golf Course in Kohler, Wisconsin.
