Well, ladies and gentlemen, it’s official, the Grand Rapids Comic-Con is here. And this  article will give you taste of opening day and serve as your guide for what to look forward to during the remaining two days of the con.

When we first entered the Comic-Con on opening day we spied a gargantuan Lego city – seemingly expertly crafted – with a moving train.

Also, on Friday, your friends at The Collegiate caught up with a few of the Comic-Con guests namely Barbara Goodson, aka the voice of the villainous Rita Repulsa. We even got her to do her wicked cackle. However, when asked about what her favorite role is, Goodson replied, “Too hard that’s like asking your favorite dinner.”

We also caught up with Kerrigan Mahan, who voiced not one, but two unforgettable Power Ranger characters in the “Malicious Goldar” and the tragic “Magna Defender.” And we got him to do the signature Goldar snarl. When asked about his favorite role, Mahan responded “I’ve probably played in my career, without exaggeration, counting all the looping and the voice replacements and voice matching, no fewer than 500 characters and probably over that.”

Mahan also admitted that one of his favorite voice roles was being the voice of Magna Defender.

Tom Kane is the voice behind Yoda in the “Star Wars: the Clone Wars” cartoon and the new voice of Admiral Akbar among his other roles. When asked which was his favorite role Kane simply replied, “Yoda’s my favorite character because I’m a Star Wars geek. But I think my favorite series overall was ‘PowerPuff Girls.’”  He then proceeded to demonstrate several of his voices for us.

And if you thought that was all GR Comic Con has to offer, you are sorely mistaken, as “this show’s just getting started.”
