In a 82-76 victory on Jan 15., the Grand Rapids Community College women’s basketball team pulled out a huge game on the road against Ancilla College. The Raiders were able to snap their six-game losing streak for road games (1-6)— improving their record to 4-11 overall.

Sophomore forward Kendall Griffioen managed to finish with a stat sheet similar to an NBA 2k20 game. Griffioen put up 20 points, 11 rebounds, and a GRCC women’s basketball record of 15 blocks for her first triple-double of the season.

“I started out missing shots, but I just kept pushing through,” Griffioen said about her performance. “I knew we needed any energy source we could find, so once I started sending back shots it allowed us to transition from defense to offense and I found my groove.”

Sophomore forward Bethany Chick also stood out, contributing 14 points and 14 rebounds to the team’s win.

The women’s team hopes to extend their winning streak during the next home on Jan. 18 at 1 p.m. The men’s team will follow this game at 3 p.m— fresh off a loss to Ancilla men’s 100-82.

Admission to enter the Ford Fieldhouse is $3 to the general public and free for any individual with a GRCC student I.D.
