Noorthoek Academy, a college experience school for adults with intellectual impairments and learning challenges, has appointed a new executive director.
Lyn VanTol, who has been a member of the Noorthhoek Board since 2013, has been appointed as the new executive director of the academy. Her position was previously held by Ric Underhile.
Noorthoek Academy has been open for 32 years. The academy has a partnership with Grand Rapids Community College, offering seven classes a week on GRCC’s downtown campus and serves about 80 students a year.
VanTol, who has more than 10 years of teaching and leadership experience, will oversee administrative operations, along with development and strategic planning.
“We feel very fortunate that Lyn has accepted this important role,” Noorthhoek Board President Cindy Zimdar stated in a press release. “We are inspired by her passion for our students and her commitment to our mission.”
VanTol is hoping to build on the academy’s record of success and financial stability to expand its reach and impact to more students.
“I have experienced the amazing impact Noorthoek makes through my own daughter, Kylee, who has been a student at Noorthoek for the past nine years and through the friendships that she has made with her many peers,” VanTol stated in a press release.
She added that she is thankful for all the donors and volunteers who have joined in the excitement of their mission with the program and those who continue to help strengthen the dynamic brought to the academy.
