Police Investigate Man Who Made Threatening Statement
At 3:35 p.m. on May 24, Officer Kam Robles was dispatched to a welfare check called in by an employee from Student Life. The employee stated that the man made a statement to a Student Center employee of a plan to assault someone and go to prison on the same day. She further stated that this individual had left the Student Center around 15 minutes before this call was dispatched. They had a rough description of the subject.
Officers Robles and Thomas Stasiak checked the surrounding area but the person was unable to be located. Officer Zack Penniman mentioned that a man matching the description was seen by him entering the Applied Technology Center – which was then searched, but the person was not located. The Student Life employee said she just wanted to conduct a welfare check on the subject.
At 4:39 p.m., Robles was dispatched to the Learning Resource Center for a sleeping person who staff suspected was not a student. The man was awoken and identified as the same subject mentioned previously. He made no statements about an assault or incarceration. He said that he was trying to obtain a new student ID and left the GRCC campus.
