Grand Rapids Community College is hosting a workshop called “Communicating With Instructors” on Jan. 25 on the Main Campus in Grand Rapids and Jan. 26 on the Lakeshore Campus. This workshop is designed to help students learn about effective and appropriate ways to communicate and ask their instructors questions and why it’s important to do so.
The workshop will be led by success coaches Becca DeKorne and Arianna Fikse.
“We want students to learn important information while also having fun in an interactive workshop,” Fikse wrote in an email to The Collegiate.
The goals of this workshop are for students to:
- learn to write an appropriate, effective email
- understand what makes a good question to ask their instructors
- learn how to maintain a positive and appropriate relationship with their professors
“The subject has come up in the past and is always well received from students,” Fikse stated. The College success center creates workshops every semester to help students be successful throughout the school year.
“Communication is a really important skill,” Fikse wrote. “It’s one we use every day and can always improve on. Communicating with college professors is different from high school teachers so we wanted to offer a workshop to help students learn the difference.”
This event will take place on Tuesday, Jan. 25 at the Main Campus in Grand Rapids at 11 a.m -12 p.m. in Room 234 in the Student Center and Wednesday, Jan. 26 from 11-12 p.m. in Room 135 at GRCC’s Lakeshore campus in Holland.
