Now that Grand Rapids Community College administrators decided to add a men’s and women’s soccer team the question is what is next for the soccer program. The new soccer teams will be playing next fall, so the hunt is on for a coaching staff and players for this brand-new program.

“We have the women’s job accepted and are just waiting for the background check,” said Lauren Ferullo, the athletic director of GRCC . “We have one more interview on Friday for the men’s position and then we will probably offer it.”

When it comes to recruiting players Ferullo said, “We have had a lot of interest as we get several recruiting questionnaires each week.” Students that are interested in the soccer team can go to the school website and fill out a form to apply to join the new team.

Only time will tell who becomes the head coach and who will be on the field playing.  When GRCC’s new soccer teams take the field  in the fall of 2023, both teams will be competing against community colleges including Muskegon Community College, Schoolcraft College, Jackson College, Ancilla College and Lake Michigan College. The women’s team will also compete against Kellogg Community College, St. Clair County Community College and Delta college – colleges that only field women’s teams.

Check back with The Collegiate for more soccer team updates.
