With their Tuesday game canceled against Alma College, the Raiders were able to get some extra rest, which came in handy tonight as it allowed them to completely control the game against the Hawks and run away with the victory.
In an impressive display of defense, the Raiders were able to shut down the Hawks and only allowed seven points in the second half.
The Grand Rapids Community College women’s basketball head coach David Glazier couldn’t have been happier with the performance of his players.
“We held them under 20 points because everyone bought into the team goal,” Glazier said. “We gave up 10 in the first half, so we discussed our defensive goals and credit to our kids for executing.”
But with great defense must come great offense as the Raiders exploded for a season high of 64 points. Grace Lodes, a sophomore forward, led the way with a game high 16 points with support from sophomore forward Sally Merril who scored 12 and sophomore guard Alyssa Katerberg, who chipped in with 11 points to help the Raiders in the win.
With victory already in hand, it allowed for the players on the bench to get some playing time. Glazier says this is helpful for player development and builds the players’ confidence.
“I was glad that we were able to play each of our players for significant minutes,” Glazier said. “That helps build our depth for the conference schedule come January.”
The Raiders look to continue their success at 5:30 p.m.on Nov. 30 against Detroit Community Christian College at the Ford Fieldhouse.
