On Thursday, Nov. 17, Grand Rapids Community College’s Student Alliance held its bi-weekly town hall meeting to discuss how to get students more connected on campus and introduce their new operations director, Alex Miranda.
Student Alliance President Pablo Villalvazo opened the discussion by asking about the headspace and well-being of everyone and their personal goals for the upcoming semester.
Student Alliance plans on holding a self-care event in December to help students struggling with mental health. The group has contacted the counseling department to get more research and help make this event more beneficial.
“What kind of event or engagement do you wanna see on campus,” Villalvazo asked.
They listed several ideas including trivia night, a car show, or a movie night, to get students to connect. Another idea is to collaborate with the art department, such as an art festival, slam poetry, open mic night, or a make it/take it an event, creating journals, calendars, etc.
The Student Alliance leaders said they hope to collaborate with more organizations and departments in the future to create more events on campus to help make Grand Rapids Community College a more cordial environment for students.
The next Town Hall Meeting will be on Dec. 1 from 2 PM to 3 PM in room 505 and is open to all students.
