The Grand Rapids Community Community College women’s basketball team faces No.2 seed Community College of Baltimore County-Essex Tuesday, March 21 at 3 p.m after winning the Great Lakes B Regional tournament. President Charles Lepper announced Monday that there will be a watch party for the game hosted at GRCC. It is open to all students and it is a celebration of what the team has accomplished.
The watch party will be in room 212 of the Ford Fieldhouse, which will include popcorn and beverages provided while watching the game on a big screen. Lepper is one of the attendees and encourages all students to show support for the school.
Lepper said in an email to Raider Nation, “We’re proud of our team. Show your Raider pride by wearing your GRCC apparel on Tuesday, and join me in wishing our women’s basketball team well in the tournament.”
As for the matchup, the Raiders come into the tournament with a record of 19-8 as the No.15 seed facing the 32-1 Knights. However, the Raiders have won eight of their last nine games including a regional championship win versus Glen Oaks Community College. They have been led by sophomore’s Marlene Bussler and Sally Merrill, who have given a spark to the Raiders offense. The Knights have an impressive resume as well, with only one loss coming in mid-January. They have won by an average of 40.18 points per game and have won their last 15 games.
