
The Grand Rapids Community College Volleyball team set multiple team records in their 3-0 (25-13, 25-2, 25-12) victory against Alpena Community College on Saturday, Sept. 23.
In their second game in two days, it took the Raiders only 44 minutes to defeat the Lumberjacks.
The Raiders started strong in the first set, allowing only 13 points which was the highest amount the Lumberjacks scored in the game.
In the second set, GRCC set three team records that will be tough to break in the future. That includes fewest points allowed in a set (2), most aces in a set (12), and most points earned (23, 12 aces, nine kills, and two blocks).
GRCC continued its momentum into the third set, as they controlled the game all the way to their victory, 25-12.
Two match records were also set as the team totaled 20 aces and sophomore outside hitter Braelyn Berry finished with 10 aces. GRCC did not have any reception errors throughout the match.
Freshman outside hitter Lizzie MacIntosh led the Raiders in kills with a total of nine, followed by freshman outside hitter Sophia Ritsema totaling five, along with Berry’s five kills.
Three Raiders had milestone performances, starting with sophomore libero Vienna Koenigsknecht’s 400th career dig. Sophomore setter Autumn Cole tallied her 200th career dig, while Berry notched her 200th career kill and her 300th career dig.
MacIntosh also had a team-high five blocks in the match and Cole led the team with 25 assists.
The Raiders increased their winning-streak to nine games, as they improved to 11-3 on the season and 5-0 in conference play. In their next game, GRCC will travel to Sidney to take on conference foe Montcalm Community College on Wednesday, Sept. 27 at 6:30 p.m.
