It was another challenging game for the Grand Rapids Community College women’s soccer team as they lost to Delta College in a rematch on Sept. 20, 1-8.
Despite the loss, GRCC’s head coach Jason Hill wants his team to learn from this loss and from their opponent.
“We as a team need to see where Delta is and understand that they are where we want to be,” Hill said. “It takes time and hard work. We need to analyze our mistakes, learn from them and stay on track.”
The Raiders’ defense struggled against the undefeated Delta College as they gave up 36 shots, with 18 of them being on goal. While on offense, they struggled to get shots at their opponent’s goal, only getting five for the whole game, but they were able to get four of them on goal.
For the Raiders, it was Allyson Seevers, a forward from Lowell, scoring the only goal for GRCC, making it her sixth goal of the season.
Toward the end of the game, a yellow card was given to Rylie Bjorkman, a forward from Sparta, for yanking a player to the ground. It is her third yellow card of the season.
The loss for the Raiders against Delta College puts their record at 5-6, with a conference record of 4-6.
Abby Buttermore, a forward from Cedar Springs, was proud of her teammates for not giving up and wants to move on from the loss.
“I think the team learned that nothing comes easily. Delta is a very good team,” Buttermore said. “However, I think we learned that as long as we put ourselves out there, give it our all, and put in 90 minutes of good work-there is nothing to be ashamed of. We’re ready to move on and continue to work through the conference.”
The Raiders will return home to play against Kellogg Community College at 3 p.m. on Sept. 23 at Mackay-Jaycees Park.
