Rebecca Lubbers, works in the Office of Student Life and Conduct as the Student Resources Coordinator for students on campus. She and the team in the office work together, listening to students to collaborate on these Craft Breaks
In an email interview, Lubbers elaborated on how these events come about stating, “(It) stemmed from student voices sharing a desire to engage in the community but also feel more in touch with their inner child.”
The Craft Breaks are funded by the Student Activity Fee all enrolled students pay. See Student Financial Services website and follow Student Government on Raider Connect to see how GRCC uses the Student Activity Fee.
All students are invited to participate in the Craft Breaks.
“For the Craft Breaks at Student Life: Make and Take events, we hope to provide some breathing room for our students throughout their day,” Lubbers stated in an email to The Collegiate, “We encourage students to take a needed mental break from their tasks to tap into crafts they enjoyed, or maybe missed out on, during their childhood. So far we’ve made slime, birdhouses, picture frames, and wall signs! Next we are using air-dry clay. Snacks and a smile are always provided!”
Student Life has hosted these events in the past, making things like keychains, birdhouses, picture frames, and wall signs.
