Former America’s Got Talent (AGT) contestant and comedian Aiko Tanaka is coming to campus on Friday, Dec. 8.

Tanaka received a standing ovation during her set on the 17th season of AGT.  Howie Mandel told her he believes “her career is about to skyrocket” Simon Cowell called her “so funny and so naughty” and Campus Activities Board (CAB) President Brayden Smith told The Collegiate that CAB members are big fans, as well.

Smith, along with the rest of CAB, had the opportunity to see her perform live over the summer at the National Association of Campus Activities.

“On behalf of all of CAB we loved her performance,” Smith said. “She was very funny, very engaging with the crowd.”

Aside from her AGT appearance, Tanaka has also made cameos in movies such as “The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift” and TV shows “The Jim Jeffries Show” and “The Howard Stern Show.”

During her set here at Grand Rapids Community College, students can expect her to bring some Grand Rapids-centered humor to help students get a good laugh before finals week.

“We want to help students to relax and destress… Laughter is always the best medicine for that.” Smith said.

There will also be a meet-and-greet opportunity with Tanaka after the show.

Smith encourages students to attend, saying that a strong turnout could open the door for CAB to invite more performers on campus in the future.

Tanaka’s comedy show is free for all students and will take place from 7 to 8 p.m., Friday, Dec. 8 in room 168 of the ATC.
