On Wednesday, Dec. 6, Grand Rapids Community College President Charles Lepper announced during his Town Hall Meeting that the Vice President of Advancement Mary Slafkosky, has abruptly departed from GRCC. Lepper also announced that Erin Van Egmond, the Executive Director of the GRCC Foundation, will be the Interim Vice President until a search to fill the position is completed.

“Hopefully you all received earlier today a message from me,” Lepper told those who attended the town hall meeting. “Erin Van Egmond is going to be serving as the Interim Vice President for College Advancement, effective immediately. Mary Slafkosky departed from the college…”

Slafkosky started her job in advancement six months ago after the previous Communications Director Dave Murray got a job as the associate vice president of Marketing and Communications at Ferris State University.

The Vice President of Advancement supervises GRCC’s communications department, the foundation, which allocates the funds for scholarships, managing grants and resources to help GRCC’s strategic plan as well as the college’s media and strategy team.

“Erin has stepped into that role and will be working with marketing and communications, the foundation, the grants office and also lab and digital,” Lepper said.

Slafkosky, Lepper and Egmond could not be reached for comment.
