Calling all music enthusiasts – Musical Moods is coming back for its 76th year this Saturday, Feb. 10 from 7-8 p.m. in the East Grand Rapids High School Performing Arts Center.

Musical Moods is a collage concert where talents from every part of the music department come together and perform with little to no interruption, apart from a brief intermission. This is the only concert Grand Rapids Community College holds all year where the audience will get to hear all of these different musicians performing in one place, from vocal jazz to a guitar ensemble.

“Every one of our ensembles will be performing, except the percussion ensemble,” said Kevin Dobreff, head of the GRCC music department. “Pretty much everything that we do here will be represented.”

Musical Moods aims to give students the opportunity to showcase their talent and hard work, as well as inspire other students to do the same. The event is not only for family and friends of the musicians, but anyone who has interest in music and wants to witness all of the talent that the GRCC music program has to offer.

Dobreff said he hopes that people from all walks of life will attend the concert and be moved by it, whether they are current students, future students, or non-students that simply have an interest in music.

Audience members can expect to hear pieces from four different choral ensembles: jazz, flute and wind ensembles, multiple soloists from different mediums, a saxophone quartet, and even a recording by a recording technology student, which is a new addition this year.

Dobreff, who has been with GRCC for 33 years, stated that at least two of the sections will be performing pieces that were composed by GRCC faculty members.

“All of the ensembles will be performing wonderful repertoire,” he said.

Tickets for Musical Moods 76 can be purchased online or at the door, but they are $2 more expensive at the door. Online, adults are $13, seniors/veterans are $8, and any GRCC or Grand Rapids Public Schools student with a current ID can get in for free.
