Editor’s Note: The Collegiate has been following the cast of “Incorruptible” since auditions. This is the fourth story in a series.
Starting on Monday, April 8 the cast and crew of “Incorruptible” began dress rehearsals. The set was finished, with just a few tweaks needed for the opening show. This is the third rehearsal actors had to become more familiar with their costumes since Hell Saturday on April 6, an all-day rehearsal before opening night.
Bill Dunckel, the costume designer, fixed the problems that the cast had with their costumes during Hell Saturday so that they would be ready for dress rehearsals.
As the cast rehearsed in their costumes, they started to look more comfortable with their character’s presence and finally got the final piece of their character’s personalities.
Ailani Mata, the actor who plays Marie, said the costumes and set made her get into character more.
“It makes me feel more like my character and I’m glad it has just been a rehearsal because some things with costumes were very tricky with certain movements,” Mata said.
With only four days on the set, the cast will be performing in front of an audience, and they need to be quickly acquainted with the new format and adjust accordingly.
Marley Ellis, the actor of Agatha, found the switch from the practice room to the main stage easier than she thought.
“It feels great working on a completed set,” Ellis said. “It’s a lot more detailed than I envisioned and making the transition from the black box theater to the main stage wasn’t that difficult of a change.”
Photographers, journalists, and GRCC’s social media team were some of the first people for the cast to perform in front of who weren’t part of the show and it started to bring up new feelings for some of the cast.
Mata said she was feeling both nervous and excited about opening night.
“I am very excited but also nervous but I know once I go out there all the nerves will go away,” Mata said.
Even though some of the crew hadn’t seen the cast rehearse from start to finish, Cole Szeszulski, Scenic Designer, Technical Director and Scenic Artist had the pleasure to see the cast grow into their characters.
“The cast is fantastic and it has been a pleasure seeing them really fill out each of their characters,” Szeszulski said. “I can really tell they have been working quite hard on making sure every line is delivered just how it needs to be and they all seem like they enjoy working with each other.”
Tickets are available on Raider Connect for April 11-13 at 8 p.m. General admission is $15, GRCC staff and faculty tickets are $10, and GRCC students are $5.
