On Wednesday, Sept. 18 at Grand Rapids Community College there will be a self-defense workshop hosted by the Campus Activities called Students Fight Back. All students are welcome to attend the fight back event where students will have the opportunity to learn about violence prevention and self defense skills from expert Nicole Snell.
It is important for students to take the time to learn about violence prevention, seeing that this gives students the opportunity to build healthy relationships as well as the chance to learn how to keep themselves safe.
The goal of this event is to help students have a greater understanding of personal safety skills. For example, being able to set boundaries and verbal de-escalation, as well as understanding what’s right and wrong.
CAB secretary Ameila Haywood, an 18-year-old majoring in education, stated in a text to The Collegiate, “We all deserve to feel safe as we go about the world.”
This event will take place from 3 p.m. – 5 p.m. on the second floor of the Student Life building in the multi-purpose room. It is free and open to all students who are curious to learn about violence prevention.
