Have you been wondering what you could do in your spare time to alleviate the stress that comes with the often agonizing school hours of study and homework? Movie watching is a wonderful way to do so as this gives students a few hours to forget about their futures and settle in a relaxing present.

For some it may be a simple comedic movie to laugh at like “Grown Ups,” or a film with deep underlying thought like “Interstellar.” Regardless of those, there are always new movies to look forward to. Here are a few movies that some Grand Rapids Community College students are looking forward to this fall.

Enio Tzary, Peyton Brenner and Kaleb Stott mentioned “Joker Folie à Deux.” The much anticipated sequel to the riveting life of Arthur Fleck. With the first film surpassing over $1 billion at the box office in 2019, this film certainly was expected to be among the must sees for college students. Stott, adding why he’s going to see the film, says, “ because the first one was pretty good.”

Salicia Patteon mentioned “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” a sequel to the original “Beetlejuice” which many considered an instant classic. This film should offer a nostalgic feeling for many who watched it when they were younger.

Sarah Brown says, “The Front Room” because, “it looked good on the trailer.” Although this movie may not be known to a lot,  A24 the entertainment company has released very impressive  movies like “Everything Everywhere All At Once,” “Ex Machina” and “Moonlight.” So “The Front Room” may be worth your time.

Leland Berman-Wright points to “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” as his upcoming fall movie pick because he says, “it’s a part of a very good series.” The third film for Sonic should cater to plenty of ages as many are familiar with the video game series from the 90’s and now it attracts a young audience as well according to the movie rating.

Alongside those movies are some that are flying under the radar that probably should be mentioned. “Venom: The Last Dance” the third installment of the exciting Venom series in which Eddie Brock and Venom tackle another crisis. “Gladiator Ⅱ” the sequel to the five-time academy award winning film “Gladiator.” Any person interested in history should be excited about this film.

Since it’s not just the fall we are experiencing this semester, Tzary and Patteon also gave their input on Halloween movies they tend to watch every year. Tzary mentioned “Beetlejuice” and Patteon recommended “Halloweentown.” Although, if you’re looking for something real scary, the original “Halloween” series dating back to the late ‘70s might be for you. Meanwhile, Stephanie Cruz prefers the newest “Halloween” series with Jamie Lee Curtis reprising her role as Laurie Strode.
