On Nov. 26 the Grand Rapids Community College IT department sent students and staff an email warning students about a phishing scam targeting GRCC students.

According to the email sent by IT, the scam involves an email claiming to be from an individual offering a job opportunity in connection with their receipt of public funding.

However, in reality, this email has a French external domain. With this being a common trick of hackers, the IT department asks if you receive a suspicious email reading “Fwd: Seeking Help with Office Tasks- Great Pay for Students” and stating that an individual is looking for a part time remote personal assistant to immediately report the email or emails to Google.

Students who receive suspected phishing emails are advised to report them to Google, as well as IT security.
