On Wednesday, Nov. 20, GRCC’s Black Africana Student Union will be hosting their first ever Uno tournament. The tournament is being held in the Applied Technology Center from 12 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. in room 120. This event is being held as a way to simply have fun on campus with the BASU members while also serving as a fundraiser for the group.

Evodie Djunga, BASU President, said, “When we meet with our members, one thing they love to do is play Uno, so we were like, ‘Why not just have an Uno tournament?’”

When planning the event, the members of the student union decided to have a limit of 40 players. The tournament was a very popular idea with Djunga saying, “I think we got 40 people in less than three weeks.”

Since this event is a tournament, there are prizes for the top three winners. First place will receive $75 and a trophy for their achievement. Second place will receive $50, third place will receive $25 and all students who participate will receive a small prize as well. Those who managed to secure a spot in the tournament had to pay a $5 entry fee. The money from these fees will go towards the tournament prizes as well as funds for the group. Unfortunately there are no more open spots in the event to participate, but everyone is welcome to show up and watch.

Djunga said, “If people want this back, we can bring it back for winter, but it’s not guaranteed. Let’s see how this goes!” So keep in mind, if this tournament goes well and is liked by a lot of people, there may be another in the future.

This allows students to come together and simply have fun while also raising money for the student union. Join BASU and cheer on the tournament participants on Wednesday.
