As spring break is fastly approaching, it isn’t just a break from classes and homework, it’s a much-needed break in the semester when students can relax and have a break from their studies.
From a nice beach in Orlando to just relaxing in their own bedroom not worrying about when the next assignment is due, The Collegiate surveyed students at Grand Rapids Community College who were eager to share their plans.
Emma Wilcox, 18, excitedly shared her plans to visit Treasure Island, “We’re going for my birthday weekend. I’m so excited.”
Next, many other students are making the most of their spring break in unique ways. For instance, Mady Jessee, 19, said happily, “I’m not doing much fun on our break but for my siblings’ spring break I’m going to Mexico.”
Jessee also shared her thoughts on her ideal spring break.
“If I could choose, I’d love to spend spring break on a beautiful, warm beach or hiking in Montana with stunning views,” she added.
On the other hand, not all plans involve traveling. Brooke Derosia, 18, has decided to stay home and catch up on her rest.
“I’ve been needing a break since the semester started,” Derosia said. “For the most part, I’ll be working but mainly trying to catch up on my sleep. I have not had a good night’s rest since winter break.”
Trystan Tilton, 18, is planning to enjoy a four-day cruise to the Bahamas, a perfect escape from reality.
Before they leave for the Bahamas, the family plans to spend a relaxing day in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, soaking up the sun and exploring local attractions. “It was perfect for our family,” Tilton shared excitedly. “But we also managed to get a great deal by booking early.
Similarly, Taevon Thomas, 18, shared his spring break plans with excitement saying, “I’m really here spending time with my family, friends and my girlfriend. That’s really it, in all honesty.”
When asked about his ideal way to spend the break, Thomas paints a vivid picture: “I love going out, enjoying the activities I love, grabbing food, shopping, and playing mini golf. Just doing the things I love with the people I love and having a great time.”
In contrast, Angel Gutierrez, 19, said, “I believe I’m looking forward to working,” when asked about his intentions for the break.
Gutierrez shared that his brother, a student at the University of Michigan, usually visits Grand Rapids during his own spring break.
“We just make plans and do random stuff,” Gutierrez explained. When asked about his ideal spring break, he focused on school, “Firstly, just making sure I’m caught up on my school work. If I have any leftover time, I try to study and get ahead for the rest of the semester.”
Whether it’s a trip to a warm, sunny place or spending time with family or friends, GRCC students are planning different ways to spend their spring break as they look forward to this much-needed pause.
