Despite Martin Luther King Jr. Day passing over a month ago, his initiative and influence can be honored forever. After having to be rescheduled, LaTosha Brown is coming to Grand Rapids March 26 and 27 to speak in tribute to MLK. Brown is nationally recognized as a leader in Black women’s empowerment, philanthropy and voting rights.

Hosted by Grand Rapids Community College, Davenport University and Grand Valley State University, Brown’s first event is at Fountain Street Church, 24 Fountain Street NE, Grand Rapids. March 26 will be the 39th Annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration. Starting at 6 p.m. the night will consist of energetic music, Brown’s keynote speech and the winners of the annual Inherit the Dream Scholarship will be announced. This celebration is open to the public including a livestream for those who can’t attend.

Brown will visit Davenport University’s Grand Rapids campus, located at 6191 Kraft Avenue SE, on March 27 In the auditorium at 10 a.m., Brown will make another appearance. Even though the day is a part of Davenport’s annual MLK celebration, the event is open to the public also with a livestream available. Attendees can expect a conversational Q&A with Davenport’s President, Richard J. Pappas, and the announcement of the annual MLK Day essay contest winners.

These dates are great opportunities to connect with the community and build more relationships. In a statement from Davenport University, Pappas said, “Let us remember that the fight for equality is far from over, and that each of us has a role to play.”
