GRCC women’s basketball cruises to 81-53 victory on Sophomore Day and Food Drive night, pushing home mark to 10-1

Grand Rapids Community College women’s basketball team extends its winning streak to three games, defeating Lake Michigan 81-53. The Raiders now sit with an 18-6 overall record and 7-1 in conference play. 

The game also marked Sophomore Day, honoring Sophomores Averi Peot, Tianna Daye, Sophia Wozniak, Harmonie Belton, Emma Picarazzi, Ka’Shari Babb, and Avery DePagter. 

Peot had herself a career night, posting a career high 33 points on 11-16 shooting. She also added eight rebounds, three assists, and a team-high three steals. Over the past five games, Peot has totaled 80 points while shooting 71.4 percent from the floor, along with 23 rebounds, nine assists, five steals, and three blocks. 

The Raiders’ advantage on the glass helped them maintain control throughout the game, posting their largest margin of the season at +23, outrebounding LMC 53-30. GRCC also capitalized on the mistakes of the opponent, scoring 18 points off turnovers, and scoring 24 more points than LMC in the paint. 

Sophomore Guard Sophia Wozniak posted 14 points and six rebounds. Sophomore Guard Tianna Daye chipped in 11 points and five rebounds.

The Raiders are now 10-1 at home this season. 

The Raiders will head back on the road after having three of their last four games at home against Southwestern Michigan College on Wednesday, Feb. 11, with tipoff at 5:30 p.m.
