Jaden Ivey, a current free agent in the NBA after playing for the Chicago and the Detroit Pistons, and a former No. 5 overall draft pick by the Detroit Pistons in the 2022 NBA Draft was thought by many to be a star on the rise leading up to his gruesome leg injury in the 2024-2025 NBA season. After a slow start to his 2025-2026 season, Ivey was traded to the Chicago Bulls at the trade deadline in a deal that brought Kevin Huerter to Detroit.

It was no secret that he was struggling on the court coming back from an injury, but that is to be expected as he has only been back for around a half season. However, his recent rants on Instagram Live, about Christianity and his thoughts regarding the NBA celebrating Pride Month have led to problems and have ultimately cost him his job.. He condemned Pride Month as celebrating “unrighteousness,” and stated that marriage can only be between a man and a woman. “How is it that one can’t speak righteousness?” “How is it that this man is crazy?, Ivey said.

This was in response to his multiple Instagram live rants and overall bizarre behavior reported in the locker room and online, where people showed concern for his mental health.

Many media personalities and Christians online have claimed that Ivey is being persecuted for his religious beliefs, but new reports have come out,  suggesting that this behavior has carried over to the locker room and the Bulls team staff, with allegations that his behavior became a distraction to the workplace. He reportedly would turn his interviews into sermons and ask people if they were “saved,” and if they “fornicated before marriage,” according to an article Jaden Ivey’s behavior had Chicago Bulls teammates ‘shaking their heads’by Alex Riley highlighting the situation with Ivey, where Bulls players were reportedly “shaking their head”.

A Yahoo Sports article(What did Jaden Ivey say? Explaining sudden release from Bulls after NBA Pride Month rant – Yahoo Sports) highlighted that reportedly Ivey would judge the Bulls’ players based on if he deemed them “righteous”, or “unrighteous.” As well as in his Instagram live on what it appeared to be before a flight called out various other NBA players, Stephen Curry, and LeBron James, for their lack of real Christianity in his eyes. “It’s not gonna do no good doing your will and trying to win championships and doing the will of God,” referring to Stephen Curry, a superstar and future hall of famer for the Golden State Warriors, and also claimed he hasn’t surrendered making him not a real Christian. “All them rings he got, all them rings LeBron got, all them people in the hall of fame, who don’t know Jesus Christ,” Ivey said.

All of these comments have been very concerning for a lot of people across the NBA community His wife Caitlyn’s recent comments on Instagram have also pointed to the fact that Ivey may have some deeper issues, after she faced backlash online from fans, claiming that she has betrayed him. As the former Pistons guard stated in one of his many rants online that she wasn’t texting him back, but in her words she said they were communicating everyday inferring that she is trying to help him.

This situation will be something to monitor in the future regarding his overall well-being and his basketball career in hopes that he and his loved ones are okay. His former coach JB Bickerstaff has shown support for Ivey through this difficult time. “As far as the way he was playing, the injuries, the comeback, and trying to overcome that. I don’t think we can overlook the human aspect of all these things and how that impacts people in their decisions”. He was referring to Ivey’s long recovery process after a serious leg injury suffered in February of 2025. He has also heard support from Bulls guard Josh Giddey, although they were only teammates for a short amount of time. “I hope he gets the help he needs, whatever he’s going through or not going through”, as he also described the situation as “unfortunate”.

In this case for Ivey freedom of space ultimately came at a price, and even if his rants and instagram live’s stop, it might be something that costs him in his NBA career in the long run.
