The Latino Student Organization started last year when President Kesia Rodriguez, 23, of Grand Rapids, an elementary education major, asked her mentor, now advisor, “What if we bring back the old Hispanic Student Organization?”

“With everything that was happening in the country, it was just an idea,” Rodriguez said.

With roughly 20 to 30 members, the Latino Student Organization now spends its time creating a community for students to come and learn about their culture.

“We are never going to tell them, ‘No, you can’t come,’” Rodriguez said.

If you are not of Hispanic or Latino culture, that doesn’t mean that you can’t attend meetings.

“We absolutely love and strive when we see other students that are not of our culture,” Rodriguez said.

They meet every other week on Thursdays from 4 to 6 p.m. in either Sneden Hall or Raleigh J. Finkelstein Hall, depending on the week. You can check their Instagram or on Raider Connect for location and meeting details.

You can join by showing up to a meeting or contacting them via their Instagram.

“We love when different people come and join our meetings,” said Rodriguez.

Recently, the Latino Student Union won the New Student Organization of the Year award. They have made significant contributions to the community within their first year.

“I just want to say thank you to everyone who has supported the organization,” Rodriguez said.

If you are interested in joining the organization, show up to one of their meetings.

Rodriguez shared a piece of advice about LSU’s meetings: “Don’t be scared to come, because we love to see different faces.”
