Retention Services will be partnering with the Academic Advising and Transfer Center to host DE-STRESS FEST, at an interactive event that will strive to encourage students for the last stretch of the winter semester. Students can look forward to attending on Thursday, April 23, at the Student Center in the Lounge.

Although the event will be available from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., the “vibe” is designed for students who just want to pop in for a few minutes as well as those who want to stay longer.

Sondra Davis, Support Professional and Retention Services, provided more insight via email.

Davis discussed how the event is designed to best fit the needs of students at the end of the semester. “Things like studying and test-taking are huge right before finals. We’re also doing a “Healthy Habits” workshop to help students finish this year strong and start the next one even better.”

In addition to curating specific workshops to accommodate students’ needs, Davis and other event organizers noted changes made between the last end-of-semester event. For instance, the organizers noticed that students were more drawn and engaged with the brain break activities rather than the workshops.

“This time, we’re doing things differently; we’re mixing the workshops directly into the fun, so it’s all one big interactive and competitive experience!” Davis stated. “But there will still be painting and coloring available for students who want to relax!”

Students who participate will get the chance to win a multitude of prizes: a $50 Amazon gift card, $25 gift cards, and other prizes and swag.

“We’re so excited to try out this new event, and can’t wait to see everyone competing for the prizes and connecting with others!” Davis stated.

Workshops and prizes aside, Davis hopes that students can stop by and feel less stressed while also learning valuable skills for their future semesters.

“We want every student to feel like they have a place here at GRCC. Plus, we want to make sure students walk away with the skills they need to do well in their classes and in their future.”
