There are 20 events happening at Grand Rapids Community College in the week of April 13. Read on to know where to eat for free on campus in the coming week:
Monday, April 13:
9:30 a.m. The GRCC men’s golf team is hosting an invitational at Mines Golf Club in Grand Rapids.
3 to 4 p.m. FutureTech Careers is hosting “Identifying Barriers” as a part of its Career Conversations series. GRCC FutureTech Careers’ Matthew Cherry will be giving a lecture on how to identify visible and invisible barriers, how lived experiences impact life, and how to move from awareness to action. Students can attend the discussion both in person and online in the Applied Technology Center Auditorium, room 168, or on Zoom. RSVPs are encouraged, but not required, and the lecture is open to the public.
Tuesday, April 14:
10 a.m. to noon. There will be “Health and Exercise Science Pop Up Advising” in the main lobby of Ford Fieldhouse. Talk to advisors, eat a free snack, and register for fall classes.
Noon to 1 p.m. Phi Theta Kappa is having a “Virtual Membership Meeting” over Zoom. Phi Theta Kappa is an honor society for two-year college students with a minimum of a 3.5 cumulative GPA, recognizing academic excellence and promoting leadership and service.
Noon to 2 p.m. Student Government and the Center for Student Life and Leadership is hosting a “Send Off Event” to celebrate the end of the school year. They will be giving away GRCC pennants at this event, happening on the fourth floor of Raleigh J. Finkelstein Hall.
3:00 PM GRCC Baseball will face Aquinas College at Belknap Park. The game will be livestreamed on the GRCC Athletics YouTube channel. Admission is free for GRCC students and staff with a valid RaiderCard.
4:30 to 5:30 p.m. “Writers at GRCC” will be meeting in room 275 of RJF Hall. Writers of GRCC is a student organization open to any students who want to meet with other student writers and discuss literary arts. This session will cultivate a comfortable space where writers can get together and work independently.
4:30 to 6:30 p.m. “Stand Out” will host its weekly meeting in room 219 of the ATC.
5 to 6 p.m. FutureTech Careers is having an “End of Semester Celebration” in room 231 of the ATC. There will be pizza and free FutureTech merchandise. RSVPs are encouraged, but not required, and the celebration is open to the public.
Wednesday, April 15:
10 a.m. to noon. There will be “Health and Exercise Science Pop Up Advising” in the main lobby of the Recreation Center. Talk to advisors, eat a free snack, and register for fall classes.
11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The Center for Counseling and Well-Being is hosting “What’s Next? Bouncing Back from a Tough Semester” as part of the “Rest, Regulate, Relate” workshop series. This workshop will encourage students to reflect on their semester, learn strategies for bouncing back, find support on campus, and make a plan for the future. The event is happening at Raider Grill, room 205 of the Student Center. There will be free food and parking passes for those in attendance.
10 a.m. to 1 p.m. FutureTech Careers is having a job fair at the Leslie E. Tassell M-TEC building, centered around the job training programs at GRCC. RSVP here.
2:30 to 3:30 p.m. The Foreign Affairs Club is having its weekly meeting in room 206 of Sneden Hall at the Devos Campus.
Thursday, April 16:
11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The Center for Counseling and Well-Being is hosting “Stress Less” as part of the “Rest, Regulate, Relate” workshop series. This workshop will help students identify stress and anxiety and develop coping strategies to increase overall wellness. The event is happening at Raider Grill, room 205 of the Student Center. There will be free food and parking passes.
4 to 6 p.m. Phi Theta Kappa is having its Invocation event in the auditorium (room 168) of the ATC.
5 to 6 p.m. U–M Transfer Bridges is hosting “Making the Leap – Student Perspectives on Transferring to the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor” over Zoom. Any community college student curious about transferring to the University of Michigan is encouraged to attend the meeting, as current U–M students share their experiences and answer questions about transferring to the school.
6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Stand Out is having a “Queer Film Screening” of the 1999 cult classic, “But I’m a Cheerleader,” which follows a young woman sent to conversion therapy for her budding queerness, which she doesn’t realize she has. The comedy shares how community is found in even the darkest places. All students are invited to room 234 of the Student Center to get free food as they watch the movie.
Friday, April 17:
Noon to 3 p.m. The Honors Program is hosting the annual GRCC Student Showcase, a campus-wide event celebrating the work and learning experiences of GRCC students through the academic year. This is an open-house style event, inviting guests to arrive and explore at their leisure. Light appetizers and desserts will be available. The event will take place at the ATC, in the banquet rooms and Secchia Piazza.
2 and 4 p.m. GRCC baseball and softball teams will face Mid Michigan College in a doubleheader at Belknap Park. The games will be livestreamed on the GRCC Athletics YouTube channel. Admission is free for GRCC students and staff with a valid RaiderCard.
3:30 to 4 p.m. Cinema Society is meeting in room 219 of the ATC. Show up to discuss film in all of its glory, from the film itself to scripts, costumes, and historical and cultural contexts of films.
