Bright and early on Sept. 29 there will be 11 in-service recruits graduating from the Sheriff’s Corrections Academy (SCA) to have their accomplishments formally acknowledged and to embark on careers in corrections with Sheriff’s Departments.
The graduation will take place at 10 a.m. at Sneden Hall room 108.
The SCA is a job-based learning program. “Students learn the basic skills associated with the duties that they can most be expected to perform in their career as a corrections officer,” said Jermaine Reese, Coordinator of the academy.
The program’s website states that it lasts for five weeks, and “Is packed with the curriculum and real-world experiences that reflect the work that corrections officers perform on a daily basis.”
Reese also specifies that “Topics include but are not limited to the following: Custody & Security, booking and intake, prisoner behavior, cultural diversity, correctional law, ethics, and report writing.”
