The GRCC Yoga Club is offering cat yoga this week at Grand Rapids Community College. If you like cats and yoga I would highly suggest this event.

The event is being organized by the Yoga Club and yoga instructor Tara Hoffman who is a student at GRCC.

“I initially came up with the cat yoga event while developing my capstone project for the honors program,” said Hoffman.

The purpose of this program is to give students a break from everyday school work and focus on something different.

“I wanted my project to be focused on improving the mental and physical health of the community here at GRCC, so what better way could I do that than by doing yoga with cats,” Hoffman said.

The cats you will get to meet will come from the Country Cat Lady, a nonprofit organization with cats who love to be around people. This event occurred last year, and about five therapy cats were brought to the campus last time.

Cat Yoga will be held on Wednesday, March 13 from 2-2:30 p.m. and 3:30-4 p.m.The event is open to everyone and will be held at the Ford Fieldhouse.

Whether or not yoga is your thing I would still recommend this event if you like and just want to hang out with cats.

“While yoga is encouraged, it will not be enforced,” Hoffman said. “We just want a safe space for students and staff to relax.”
