Homeless Student Found Sleeping in the Ford Fieldhouse

On Friday, March 20, at 7:41 a.m., an officer was dispatched to the Gerald R. Ford Fieldhouse on a report of a person sleeping on the counter on the ground level of the building. Dispatch told the person they had his shoes off, and he was lying on his back on the counter. Another officer advised that the person was a current GRCC student. Two officers responded to the area. Upon arrival, they noticed a man with his shoes off and sleeping on top of the counter. An officer yelled out campus police which startled the man and woke him up. He told the man he could not be sleeping on the counter with his shoes off like he was. He also told the man it’s not against the law to be sleeping in a building, but he could not be sleeping on the counter with his shoes off. The man stated he was homeless but was a GRCC student. He left the building without incident and entered the student center. The officer requested a report to be written because it was the second time officers had contact with the man.

Damaged Electrical Box Found on GRCC Parking Ramp

On Friday, March 20, at 2:35 p.m., while the officer was patrolling Ramp A, she noticed a damaged electrical box on level 6 in the southwest corner. The silver box is a power supply box for the sign on Ramp A. The box is dented and smashed in. However, it appears the wiring inside is fine. She met with a member of the GRCC facilities staff on scene to assess the damage. The employee told the estimate to fix the box would be $500. He will contact the company to repair the box. He’ll supply an exact amount once the repairs are done. It appears the damage was possibly from a vehicle accidentally hitting it while parking. The time from when the damage occurred is unknown, but it was before this date and time.
