The Grand Rapids Community College women’s basketball team stumbled in a 74-68 loss to the visiting Hope College junior varsity team on Wednesday.
GRCC took an early six-point lead thanks to strong rebounding but 18 first-half turnovers saw their lead evaporate to a 25-20 deficit to the end the half.
“They got out to a lead because we didn’t rebound and we didn’t make shots,” Hope coach Ryan Ross said. “Towards the end of the first half we started to rebound better and make some shots. We were able to get a lead and continue that in the second half.”
With better ball control in the second half GRCC was able to stay within reach of Hope, but could not dig themselves out of the hole from early on in the game.
“I was disappointed that we weren’t able to pull it out,” GRCC Coach Tracy Little said. “We showed a real spurt of urgency there at the end but ultimately we have to play with that sense of urgency and purpose for forty minutes.”
GRCC will have several days off before playing at Davenport University JV at 5:30 p.m. December 10.
