The GRCC women’s basketball team defeated Kellogg Community College 70-54 on Wednesday.
“Our whole second half performance was pretty average,” Head Coach Ray Kimball said. “We had a nice little spurt that took us to 30 (point lead), but we did not play with as much enthusiasm in the second half.”
The win sees the Raiders finish the first half of conference play at 4-4, but the team was still unhappy with the amount of focus and energy displayed in the second half.
“We definitely wanted to keep our intensity up throughout the whole 40 minutes,” point guard Renay Palmer said. “We struggled a little bit in the second half with our intensity.”
The intensity was apparent in the first half, however, when the Raiders would end up scoring a total of 47 points and holding Kellogg to only 21.
“It was a quality first half,” Kimball said. “(We had) regular rotations and we had a nice little run at them.”
Coach Kimball said the team had “great ball movement,” and that more importantly in the first half that the “defensive intensity created enthusiasm and some things on the offensive end.”
The Raiders will play at Glen Oaks Community College Saturday, starting the second round of conference play.
“It was nice to get up,” Kimball said. “It was nice to get everybody a lot of minutes.”
