The Grand Rapids Community College women’s basketball team improved to 13-9 on the season after taking revenge against Ancilla College 99-72 Friday.
When these two teams squared off Jan. 9, it resulted in a disappointing 107-82 defeat for GRCC.
“This is a team that absolutely throttled us at their place,” said GRCC Head Coach Ray Kimball. “We knew it was going to be a war, so we’re doing all the right things tonight.”
The team decided they were not going to let that happen again.
“We lost to this team before by a lot,” said GRCC sophomore Regan Cross. “We came out and decided we were going to win this game. We were down coming into the second half, but there was a quick turnaround and we were ahead in no time.”
GRCC only had seven healthy players in the win, but that did not affect the way the team played.
“We had to step up,” said Dieona Rogers, GRCC sophomore.. “We knew we had players down, so we had to step up.”
And they did.
Rogers, sophomore Courtney Zenner and Cross each finished with season highs in points. Rogers finished with 30, Zenner finished with 32 and Cross finished with 18.
Cross was also happy with the team’s level of play the past few games and said the “bar has been set higher” for the rest of the season.
GRCC will play at Jackson College at 5:30 p.m Wednesday.
