A meeting will be held tomorrow for the campus community at the Grand Rapids Community College Student Life office in the wake of the death of GRCC Student Life Office Manager Molly Maczka.
According to GRCC officials, Maczka died of a heart attack.
The college notified the community of her death on the GRCC Facebook Page earlier this evening.
When Lina Blair, director of student life and conduct, came to GRCC for the first time after being hired, Maczka spent a morning introducing her and her wife to people around campus.
“Molly had an incredible ability to help anyone who stopped by the office to feel welcomed, connected and that they belonged in the GRCC community,” Blair stated in an email. “The Office of Student Life and Conduct is a better place because she was a part of it.”
GRCC Director of Communications Leah Nixon said the college community is stunned and saddened by Molly’s passing.
“She was a fixture at GRCC who worked with many faculty, staff and students, and was very well liked,” Nixon stated in a message to The Collegiate.
The gathering for students will be from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. tomorrow, Oct. 28, in the Student Life office on the first floor of the Student Center.
“Hopefully this will provide space to share the news with students, but also to just talk, be together,” Blair stated in an email. “We have some counselors who will be present and some snacks as well. I’m sure students will be in and out tomorrow all day.”
The GRCC Counseling and Career Center will be open from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. tomorrow and is located on the third floor of the Student Center.
