Today Grand Rapids’ Avenue for the Arts is hosting Art.Downtown from noon to 9 p.m.

This is their ninth year. Four hundred artists will be displaying their work in over 30 venues. This event is completely free. The Grand Rapids Trolley will provide free transportation to all of the major areas. The trolley will run from noon to 8:45 p.m.

Grand Rapids Community College student Deanna Duba, 27, is the promotions coordinator this season. She is an intern for Avenue of the Arts this semester and an interior design major.

“I have been exposed to all aspects of art and have met amazing people along the way,” Duba said. “As promotions coordinator, I am in charge of all social [media] and my main focus this semester is Art.Downtown.”

Duba said the internship has given her more of an appreciate of the Heartside area of downtown Grand Rapids, which is an artsy area but also a low-income area where many homeless people reside.

“Art.Downtown is an event focused on bringing the community together through art,” Duba said. “It is very intimate and you are able to shake hands with the artists and business owners.”

The weather for the event is expected to be sunny and in the high 50s to low 60s.
