GRCC Library: How to Utilize your Resources

The Grand Rapids Community College Library is one of the greatest unknown resources here on campus.

The library is not only a great place to study, but a place where students can do research for class projects and papers. There are also several librarians who are trained to help with a specific subject. They can assist students with their research and guide them to the most reliable resources. The library also has an “Ask a Librarian” service available to students. Students can go onto the library’s web page and ask a librarian where to find a source. There is usually a 10 minute to 2 hour wait time for a response.

There is a small group tutoring service on the second floor of the Library for students who need help with classes. They offer tutoring math 097 and 107, (IRW) Integrated Reading and Writing 097 and 098.The tutoring is appointment based tutoring so, for students who think they will need help, right now is the best time to make an appointment. The first floor features rows of reference books as old as two years. Students can also find old references in the enormous online database that is available to students.

A brand new feature to the library is a free subscription to the New York Times publication. To learn more, here is a link to a story about the subscription. On the second floor features aisles full of over 60,000 textbooks and research sources as well as over 120,000 ebooks and online databases that are accessible to all students.

The Library also offers a meditation and prayer space where students can sit down and either meditate or practice their religious beliefs. Next to that room is a “quiet, room for students to study.

One the second floor of the library, there is a corner of the space that is proven to be a more quiet than the rest of the library. The room features noise canceling technology to help student study in silence.

The Library is open Mon. – Thurs. 7:30 a.m. to 9:45 p.m. Fri. from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sat. from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
